“God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.” Hebrews 4:12-13 (MSG)
The Bible is rich, and it gives life, but sometimes we find ourselves needing a little nudge or invitation to read it. The Word corrects us when we have strayed and teaches us more about God so we can have a fulfilling relationship with Him. Additionally, it gets to the heart of the matter. The Bible clears the confusion of life, leaving us open to hear the soft and calming voice of the Lord. Although we may try to put up barriers to its truth, no person is immune from feeling the prick of the Holy Spirit through the written words in the Bible. You can’t outrun its tug that draws you in.
As a quick word of encouragement this Monday evening, I urge you to pick up your Bible if you have neglected it recently. For you “faithful readers” as of late, go deeper.
God’s Word is not an end in itself. Instead, it is the medium by which God has chosen to reveal Himself. Through reading, memorizing, and meditating on the Word, we draw closer to its Author.
Take a small passage and dissect it as it dissects you. Spend time thinking about its truths, then pray them back to God. You will be filled while simultaneously wanting more.
Go ahead. Have some quiet time with the Lord.
