3 Bible Verses That Have Shaped Me Spiritually

All that we consume shapes the way we think. The Bible has a powerful way of purifying earthy thinking. There are many verses throughout God’s Word that have impacted me, but today I want to share three with you.

Proverbs 16:9 (HCSB) “A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD determines his steps.”

I am a good planner. God has given me the desire to be thorough in my preparation for just about anything, so I love to plan for the future. Although this is often a positive trait, lately He has been rewiring my mind to set out a course of action and submit the details to Him. I like His way better.

Proverbs 22:29 (HCSB) “Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand in the presence of kings. He will not stand in the presence of unknown men.”

This may seem like an odd verse to choose, but I think it is a great exhortation to pursue excellence in all I do. By setting high standards for myself in school, work, and everyday living I will naturally strive to do well, consequently living in a way that glorifies and exalts God.

1 Corinthians 16:13 (HCSB) Be alert, stand firm in the faith, act like a man, be strong. Your every action must be done with love.”

Such simplistic, yet powerful truth on godly manhood. Always be on your toes, don’t waver when you are challenged, behave like a biblical man, have internal strength fitting for God’s man, and don’t forget to do everything in love. It doesn’t get any better than that.

These are just a few of my favorite verses. God is so gracious to share His ways with us through the Bible. Thank Him for the Word and reflect on what verses have helped shape you the most.
